LONDON (AP) — Trish Keenan, the lead singer of the British electronic pop duo Broadcast, died on Friday. She was 42.

The cause was complications of pneumonia, Warp Records, Broadcast’s label, said in a statement on its Web site.

Ms. Keenan, the bassist James Cargill and two other musicians formed Broadcast in Birmingham in 1995. Eventually the group became a duo of Ms. Keenan and Mr. Cargill.

Broadcast released only a handful of albums but acquired a cult following over the years with an unusual sound that Mr. Cargill called “a balance of experimental song structure and electronic textures.” Reviewing a performance in 2009, Jon Pareles of The New York Times noted that the band “has always set up tensions between pop tunes, sung by Ms. Keenan with ingenuous clarity, and atmospheric, disruptive sounds.”

That same year Warp released the duo’s most recent album, a collaboration with the band the Focus Group.
