Learned about these guys watching the Coachella live stream this past weekend. They're from Sacramento I think, shit's pretty crazy.

The drummer Zach Hill has been in a ton of great bands the most known probably being Hella.

The Money Store might be one of my favorite albums to drop this year at this point. Shit is hectic as fuck. A couple days ago I was listening to it with a pretty good hangover and got about four songs in and had to turn it off because I felt like I was going to have an anxiety attack lol.

Listening to it right now all like  though.

Zack Hill is from the band HELLA, this all makes so much sense now...

I actually liked the band Hella, and saw them live a few times. I've been bumping Money Store and Exmilitary often... this is one of those rare projects that actually push boundaries.

C @ChopShop you might want this...

http://thirdworlds.net/blackgoogle.php

It's each song on Exmilitary but in instrumental form, and then also broken down into the parts of the song as well. Like the drums by themself, the vox, effects.. etc. You can probably find some dope stuff in there for your sampling.

I've also liked their approach to marketing their music even though they are on a major label now. They have given away 5 songs for free download and put the whole album on both youtube and soundcloud streaming over a week before the album drops (which is tomorrow btw)

There is more info about how they do some of their promo here. but out of all of it I found this the most interesting way.

Death Grips x BitTorrent

Though the major labels and lots of other people equate filesharing with theft, Death Grips is publicizing The Money Store with a BitTorrent bundle of music and videos. I love the fact that this bundle is being publicized, in part, by a press release distributed via BusinessWire:

"BitTorrent will promote the bundle on the company’s two main Web properties (www.bittorrent.com and www.utorrent.com), via advertising to new users, and by offering the bundle directly in the two software clients. The promotion is designed to offer Death Grips fans a special preview for the new album using the fastest download technology available, engage new global fans, and help facilitate pre-sales of the album 'The Money Store' on sale April 24th via Epic Records. "

BitTorrent also held a live chat with Death Grips on Twitter which they then transcribed and excerpted.

This week Death Grips dropped all the audio tracks from The Money Store on their YouTube channel. Whatever the deal with Epic, so far Death Grips seems to be maintaining their uncompromising stance towards art and business. It will be interesting to see what happens now that they're getting a lot more attention and, hopefully, real label support.
