Kendrick Lamar Leads Grammy Award Nominations

All hail King Kendrick. Kendrick Lamar leads the nominations for the 58th Annual Grammy Awards, it was announced today.

The Compton rapper scores a whopping 11 nods, followed by The Weeknd and Taylor Swift, who each earn seven. Additionally, Drake picks up five nominations.

Lamar becomes the second most nominated artist in a year, only trailing Michael Jackson with 12. He also earns the most nominations for a rapper in a single year, beating Eminem’s previous record of 10 at the 53rd Annual Grammy Awards.

In the Album of the Year category, Lamar’s To Pimp a Butterfly will vie against The Weeknd’s Beauty Behind the Madness, Taylor Swift’s 1989, Chris Stapleton’s Traveller, Alabama Shakes’ Sound & Color.

The Record of the Year nominees include D’Angelo and The Vanguard’s “Really Love,” Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars’ “Uptown Funk,” Ed Sheeran’s “Thinking Out Loud,” Taylor Swift’s “Blank Space,” and The Weeknd’s “Can’t Feel My Face.”

Song of the Year includes Lamar’s “Alright,” Taylor Swift’s “Blank Space,” Little Big Town’s “Girl Crush,” Wiz Khalifa’s “See You Again” featuring Charlie Puth, and Ed Sheeran’s “Thinking Out Loud.”

In the Best Rap Album category, the nominees include Lamar’s To Pimp a Butterfly, J. Cole’s 2014 Forest Hills Drive, Dr. Dre’s Compton, Drake’s If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late, and Nicki Minaj’s The Pinkprint.

Best Urban Contemporary Album includes The Internet’s Ego Death, Kehlani’s You Should Be Here, Lianne La Havas’ Blood, Miguel’s Wildheart, and The Weeknd’s Beauty Behind the Madness.

The 58th Annual Grammy Awards will air live on Monday, Feb. 15, at 8 p.m. from the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
