Vallejo City Council Votes to Close All Medical Marijuana Dispensaries - NUGGETRY News
After almost two years of debate, the Vallejo, California city council voted to ban all medical marijuana dispensaries within city limits.
The city decided on a 5-2 vote to close all medical marijuana dispensaries in the city, even those in compliance with the Measure C tax.
Measure C was approved in 2011, which imposes a business license tax rate of 10% on the sales of medical marijuana within the city. According to city reports, 11 of the city’s 26 medical marijuana collectives were in compliance with Measure C.
Some councilmembers alluded to the fact that they may allow shops to reopen once a new regulatory system has been established, but that all must close for now.
A vote to ban collectives outright failed, but it was followed by vote to have the city staff bring recommendations back to the council on the regulation of medical marijuana dispensaries within city limits. Those recommendations will be reviewed in March
