Cool, except you cant play Metroid, Zelda, or any of the other classic games on it. I had a Gensis, but really wasnt shit on it outside Sonic.
There was a bunch of classic exclusives on Genesis, just off the top of my head Shining Force 1&2, Phantasy Star 1-4, Golden Axe, Streets of Rage 1-3, Altered Beast, Castlevania Bloodlines, Revenge of Shinobi, Contra Hard Corps, X-Men 1&2

The Shining Force and Phantasy Star games alone were enough to own a Genesis.

Those games were iight, but none of them stack up to the NES games listed IMHO. We are talkin about classics here in Metroid, Zelda, Castivania, Maro Bros. 1-3? Thats all star shit right there.

I don't know about all that lol the moment I got my hands on my Genesis and SNES my NES got buried under a massive pile of dust. The NES games were cool in the 80's, but the moment the next generation came out those games weren't shit anymore.

I would have much rather seen Nintendo release something like this for SNES.

Phantasy Star doesn't stack up to Mario Bros though??? lol

I mean its technically a good deal since they charge $5 a pop for these games digitally but the price point is just a bit too much to me. Like the tech to make these must be dirt cheap now they can def afford to make it like $40.

Sega one upping them isn't surprising they seem need the money much more lol. Ya'll see they're making a new "classic" sonic game? shit looks dope

NES games will always be held in higher regard by long time gamers more than Genesis...no question. Its nostalgia at its highest peak. This isnt about better graphics or music...thats clearly apples to oranges.

I dont know about you, but im almost 40, so when the NES came out, i was near 10 years old and it was the shit. It was on a whole different level than Atari or whatever other system that had come out prior. They basically started the home console rage...the NES is the OG.

I would have much rather seen Nintendo release something like this for SNES.
I would rather see a SNES over a Genesis. Quite frankly, i never liked the Genesis even though I owned one. Not even CLOSE to the hype i had for the NES. Altered Beast was about the only game i really fucked with on there, outside of Sonic of course.

Dont know....never played it. Video games are subjective for the most part but if you took a poll of what is more iconic and nostalgic...i can guarantee most people wouldn't even list Phantasy Star as a contender.

As far as pure numbers of course NES will be held in a "higher regard", but that's based solely on pure nostalgia because the majority of people over age 25's first experience with a video game was probably an NES, but what does that have to do with quality of games and "stacking up" like you said earlier?

As somebody who is still a hardcore gamer, that interacts with gamers on a daily basis, and has spent his entire life around gamers the "higher regard" statement can't be further from the truth for hardcore gamers. Take away all of the casual people who maybe tried Mario Bros. as a kid and doesn't know anything outside of the NES and Genesis will definitely be a gamers pick then they'll more than likely say "fuck both, SNES is the best".

I'm 33, got a NES at age 5 in 1988. What you're saying about NES is how my generation felt about Genesis/SNES. You had your Atari, then NES dropped and your Atari collected dust. That's how we were a console generation later.

NES starting the rage and being "OG" doesn't make it better, is NES better than PS4 because it's "OG"? lol

I would like to see both SNES and Genesis get made. Both had great exclusives.

I think you don't realize the amount of super nerd gamers are in the world, you ever heard of RPG's? Phantasy Star started the RPG craze. Phantasy Star 1-4 especially 4 is on numerous gaming publication "best games of all time" lists. Before World of Warcraft Phantasy Star Online was the game retards were hurting themselves over because they refused to stop playing and take care of themselves lol

I ask again though, what does your post have to do with "stacking up". Of course Mario Bros. wins by nostalgia points. Mario Bros. beats any video game ever made based on nostalgia points. Have somebody play through Mario Bros. and then play through any of the 4 Phantasy Star games on Genesis and then ask them "what game is better".

Your entire post is basically screaming "nostalgia is better than game quality".

I remember starting with Atari 2600 and Colecovision.... My mom didnt want to get me a NES cuz she thought it was too expensive so I use to roll to my best friends pad. Didn't get one till 88 for Christmas from my nina lol! NES was the shiiiiiiet and have great memories with my childhood friends more than any other system. Countless classics in my book from Super Mario Bros, Zelda, Mike Tyson's Punch Out, Tecmo Bowl, Contra, etc. Great times as a kid in the late 80's!

Really? So you're saying Final Fantasy & Dragon Quest(both started on Nintendo, both still onging series) had nothing to do with it? lol

I was an only child, so I had rob the robot when I got my first nintendo.
damn breh. i didnt even know what that robot did but i wanted it.

i remember the power glove and u-force. its weird how those technologies were one and done. they died out and no one (including Nintendo) built on the technology. now Wii and X-Box basically use that technology and its considered state of the art.

that is a trip isn't it? The robot sucked. The only game it was good for was Gyromite (came with the game package along with duck hunt and the pistol) because he would hold things open for you. I remember having fun with the power glove when my buddy got it.

I think Sega Dreamcast was a super underrated system. I guess it just kind of came out at the wrong time, but I thought it was great.

The thing I always wanted when it was out was the Turbo Express (handheld Turbografx 16)

It doesnt necessarily have shit to do with quality. Obviously 16-bit > 8-bit...no one is denying that. As stated, its nostalgia. And that can go a long way for folks.

SNES isnt apart of the argument, so its irrelvant.

Exactly. Playing a video game at 5 and playing one at 10? HUGE difference.

NES starting the rage and being "OG" doesn't make it better, is NES better than PS4 because it's "OG"? lol
Actually...it can. Better is subjective. You're thinking better in terms of technically aspects...visual, platforms, etc. Of course a 16-bit machine is going to offer more.

OK. I disagree with the Genesis statement. I thought it was boring and bland and didnt like pretty much most games.

I think you don't realize the amount of super nerd gamers are in the world, you ever heard of RPG's? Phantasy Star started the RPG craze. Phantasy Star 1-4 especially 4 is on numerous gaming publication "best games of all time" lists. OK. I never played or heard of it.

You just outlined my post. Nostalgia and simplicity. It takes us back to our childhood and again, casual to hardcore gamers....more people remember and played the likes of Zelda and Mario Bros than Altered Beast and Sonic. I can guarantee you that.

Your entire post is basically screaming "nostalgia is better than game quality".
It took all that to realize that? Does this really need a whole break down? We dont agree, maybe we should leave it at that. But i stand by my initial post.

You're way better off just doing a DIY project for less than $50. All you need is a $30 Raspberry Pi, an SD card, download and install RetroPie and of course all the games you want, done. Easy step by step here:

How to Build a Raspberry Pi Retro Game Console for $35*

And of course you won't just be limited to NES games either.
If I had more time on my hands I could make a bunch of these and probably make a killing on eBay for the holiday season since these are sold out everywhere and in high demand. I'll have to chalk this up to another good idea I'll never get around too like buying bulk NFL jerseys from China for dirt cheap and reselling on eBay.
