I write this from a deeply saddened and dolorous mindset. After days of deliberating over some extremely disappointing news that I was being threatened with termination by Executives because of a comedy special that was only intended to bring communities closer together, I was to be punished for a joke. This has weighed heavy on my spirit. It was brought to my attention by my "team" that NBC believed that I was in breach of contract because I had disparaged their brand. In my defense, I would ask how so? Or is this just another way to silence and control an outspoken voice who often battles the establishment. Recently many of my mentors have cautioned me that soon "The System" would come down on me because I was speaking too many truths and being to loud about it. I had no idea that it all would hit so close to home. I find myself in a dark place having to make a decision that I wish I didn't have to, but as a man, an artist, and a voice for my community I will not be silenced, controlled or treated like a piece of property. There is no amount of money worth my dignity or my integrity. I have loved hosting AMERICAS GOT TALENT for the last 8 seasons, watching talented, brave, and courageous Americans accomplish their dreams in front of millions has been nothing but a joy, and everyone has been a pleasure to work with but my soul won't allow me to be in business with corporations that attempt to frown on freedom of speech, censor artists, and question cultural choices. Not to get too detailed but this isn't the first time executives have attempted to "put me in my place" for so called unruly actions. I will not stand for it. My moral principles will easily walk away from the millions of dollars they hang over my head. It's never been about the money for me, what is difficult to walk away from is the fans, the people who love me on the show. This hurts tremendously. I felt like I was apart of the fabric of our great nation every summer, representing every culture, age, gender, and demographic. Now for the rug to be pulled from underneath me and to be publicly reprimanded and ridiculed over a joke about my own race is completely wrong and I have to do something about it. I have fought many battles in my career and have never been afraid to go up against the system. I have mulled over my process for days and felt it was best to once again speak my mind about an unjust infrastructure that treat talent like they own them. Maybe it was my mistake for signing the contract in the first place, in which I will take full responsibility and have already taken action to restructure my own team of advisors. I now have to set out on a journey of freedom as an artist. As I was quoted in a recent interview, "You can't fire a Boss!" and that is the essence that I possess. So I wish AGT and NBC the best in its upcoming season but I can not see myself returning. As of lately I have even questioned if I want to even be apart of an industry who ultimately treats artists in this manner. Most of us don't realize that there are 6 major corporations that control 90 percent of media in America and the amount of minority executives is dismal. With this being the case, true equality in our industry is impossible. There will always be a "do as I say" mentality that mirrors society's perception of women and minorities, and only a few will stand up against it. I proudly stand as one of those few, and will gladly take on whatever repercussions that come with it. I love art and entertainment too much to watch it be ruined by controlling corporations and big business. I believe It's our duty as artists to make a difference and create change even if it's one act at a time. Dr. King said it best, "Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about the things that matter"

I watched the first 15 minutes of his comedy special on Showtime last night, it was terrible so I turned it off lol but NBC was probably mad because Nick Cannon kept saying shit like "tonight NBC stands for Niggas Be _____" basically he said Niggas Be and a bunch of words that start with C over and over to prove to his mostly black crowd that he wasn't gonna be the whitewashed NBC guy tonight.

A corporate entity frowns upon potentially controversial material!?!? Shocking!!

And when they try to "control" the person they are paying to "be more mainstream" it's all a big conspiracy? Pfft. We've seen this so many times before, from NBC and Richard Pryor to so many others. That's the business. Not sure why people are still surprised by this. Plus it's NBC, as mainstream as it gets, not HBO or some late night network.

Don't bring logic in to this. It's racist to make people comply to their employer's standards.

If you collect a paycheck from NBC you should be able to bash the company and the TV show you work for. Don't be racist 2-0-Sixx.

Some people say don't shit where you eat, but was he shitting where he ate?
Would NBC not have been better off keeping quiet?
I would have never known about it if they had.
Should comedians be censored?
At the end of the day AGT will probably lose viewership over it.
Not that I watched the show anyway or NBC for that matter lol.

NBC did keep quiet and kept business behind closed doors. Nick Cannon brought it public. If you represent a brand and accept a paycheck from the brand then you comply with the brand's standards. NBC felt he didn't represent their brand the way they wanted him to, so they let him know it.

He could have easily quit before his special. He stated in his public response that he was already unhappy with NBC and he said during his comedy special that NBC "took his nigga card". If that's how he felt, it's a simple solution....don't work there.

Dude is worth $50 million dollars and made that money from family programming on Nickelodeon and NBC. If he's so worried about his "nigga card" now after 18 years and $50 million dollars he could have simply walked away, but instead he wanted to attention whore and be a victim.

if i went on tv and talked a bunch of shit about my employer id be fired as well
This is true.

What also is true is that NBC didn't complain about everything he said, just the fact that NBC took his black card.

Sounds petty by such a huge media conglomerate.

Allowing corporations to do people like this is why we have so many PC faggots in society, the corporations enable and promote this type of culture. It is exactly the problem.

NBC hasn't actually complained about anything or made a statement. Nick Cannon himself, the person who is mad is the only person that is a source on the subject. When have you ever known a mad party to be 100% accurate on what was said and what wasn't?

According to Cannon they were mad about him saying NBC stands for "Nigga Better C'mon". Even Cannon himself never actually said NBC were going to punish him, he said he heard through a 3rd party that NBC was mad at him lol no NBC execs even talked to him......this is his words.

You say corporations not letting their employees bash the corporation creates a faggot PC culture? I would counter that and say allowing people to do whatever the fuck they want when they work for you is creating a victim culture and making people think they're entitled to something.

This shit seems like it was purely orchestrated by Cannon himself to get headlines. Dude is trying his hardest to get his "nigga card" back, that's basically all he talked about during the first 10 minutes of his special lol seems like a calculated move to get headlines and say "hey look at me, I'm not the white washed guy you thought I was, accept me again".

The problem here is Nick Cannon is a corny chump who never had any problems until he lost his job. People should look into what Richard Pryor did with NBC. He felt he was censored too much? He quit. After the first episode of his show after NBC spent all this money, well that really freaked thrm out so they of course brought him back. He even hired a "negro consultant" who would tell Richard if he didn't think he was being black enough, and if he ever said it wasn't black enough Richard would put it on extra thick. He really shoved it down NBCs throat. They really couldn't do shit about it despite it being so controversial, and Pryor walked away with millions regardless and at the end of the day Pryor was his own man, he did thr kind of comedy he wanted, offended tons of people and didn't give a shit.

Of course Nick Cannon is no Richard Pryor, but still, he should have said shit before. Not after the fact.

This happened to Chapelle as well, with a much less mainstream entity.

This happens to more people than we know of, some people either aren't a high enough celeb status for the public to care in general, or they don't make any additional waves about it. Should you be able to openly voice your opinions of a corporation without repercussion (i.e. losing your job or being forced to resign)? I say yes. We have allowed corporations to dictate our rights for way too long. I think falling for the old "if you don't like it go somewhere else" or "don't bite the hand that feeds you" type mantras are indoctrinated programming masked as so-called common sense. We, the people, are the life-blood of these corporations. They cannot operate without us. A corporation that exists based on people is no longer a viable entity without people. I think its time for people to wake up and realize the power they weld, unified. When we remain divided, they retain the power. Just an opinion that won't change anything because the next man is always ready to please his master.
