Depends what kind of sound you want. A p-bass will have a low thumpy sound and a some what wide neck, while a jazz bass will be a little higher pitched with a thinner neck. A jazz bass would be good for funk where you want to get a good slap sound. If you want a decent chinese bass instead of a squier go get a sx bass from rondo music.

Thank you sir for sheddin some light on this. That P-Bass sounds beautiful and I'm leaning towards that, but the Jazz Bass sounds just as good but yeah... P-Bass lol. So Im guessing the Squier is the standard?

there's other brands like ibanez, yamaha, etc but those two fenders are the standard for performing musicians unless you're balling and can afford a rickenbacker. Right now I'm trying to get money together for a jazz bass, in my opinion it would be more versitile and easier to play.
