That snare is not a single sound. It's got at least a few layers (of which includes a kick and a clap), and each layer sounds like it's been processed. I strongly you play around with layering and using things like gates (especially for snares). It doesn't take long before you learn how to make some hot original kits.

Aside from compression. Try a Transient Shaper plugin. SPL is one of the best I've used.

Ya its a layered sound. You can do all sorts of dope clap/snares if you just play around with your library of samples. you can be creative with it besides just using a single drum sound.
