You guys should check out this plugin! This compressor has a ton of character and is just overall bad ass. Can't believe it's free.

I use compression most on kick drums, and for lighter synths, or any leads you want sitting on top of the mix

I also find bussing audio, and putting them through a compressor tends to tie all the lead and acapella vocals together nice.
