Michael Jordan announced on national television he's leaving Chicago to join the Detroit Pistons. Jordan said it was tough to bolt Chicago, where he was the most popular athlete in many years, because he thinks he has a better chance to win a championship if he plays with Pistons star Isiah Thomas. Jordan said by playing together, he and Thomas "won't have the pressure of going out and scoring 30 every night."

That would have sounded absurd, right? Well, it is no more absurd than what LeBron James is doing. Jordan was 27 years old in 1990, slightly older than James is now. He had never been to the NBA Finals. He had been beaten up by the Celtics and Pistons for years. He doubted his supporting cast was good enough.

But he never doubted himself.

it would not have sounded absurd actually... I can respect any athlete putting themselves in the best opportunity to win

teams are quick to trade players when it's "best for the team" so why can't a player leave when it's best for them

Dan Gilbert wasn't loyal to Mike Brown when he lead them to the best record in the NBA 2 years in a row

there's no loyalty in sports, and there shouldn't be an exception with Lebron

IMO, it shows Lebron's own doubt in himself. The fact that they collectively got together and decided to head for the same team, is lame IMO.

I believe a guy with Lebron's talent should have the mentality of wanting to blaze his own path.

Now, when they win a championship (IF they do, I'm not a believer) its going to be what was expected, and no one will be impressed.

Long Live The REAL TRUE and ONLY KING.

Just read the article. Great writeup. I agree with everything Rosenberg says. I think the reason why so many are being harsh on the guy is because he is the self proclaimed King, and Chosen 1.

So when you do that, people are going to expect you to back that up. Going to Miami where one of the 3 best players in the NBA already plays, and another All Star caliber player are, doesn't seem to match those claims.

Lebron is a cocksucker.

Lebron doesn't care about anyone but himself. It takes one heartless dude to turn ur back on your hometown and the team that made him

I don't blame LeBron because management never really got him the supporting cast he needed.

That being said, I still wanted to see him get a ring in Cle. Too bad they couldn't pull off the sign and trade that would have landed Bosh in Cleveland.

MJ and kobe had a supporting cast they didnt do it themselves kobe was gonna bolt til west handed em gasol for nothin
Not even close.

The Lakers gave up 4 players (one of which was Marc Gasol) and 2 first round picks; that is far from "nothing". And if you're refering to Jerry West, he retired the year before they made that trade - it was Chris Wallace who gave up Pau Gasol.

At what point did I say it was an "even" trade? Besides, what difference does it make to me? What the fuck do I care how fair it was. The Grizzlies front office made the concious decision to trade him for what they got. Period.

But look at the trade a little deeper: Marc Gasol's numbers are on par with Pau's at the same point in their career (nearly 15 and 10) and no one can argue two first round picks. I just don't think it was as lopsided as some people think. This shit happens all the time in the NBA.

ur right about that. I was so pissed when Baron left the W's so a lot of us can relate to a Cavs fan right about now and some of u need to realize its not ok what he did regardless if ur a fan of his, yall need to fallback. The question is why wasn't he willing to take a pay cut in Cleveland if he wants to win so badly?

WHY ALL THE LEBRON HATE... THE CAVS COULDN'T GET NOBODY TO COME PLAY WITH LEBRON. BOSH SAID NO NOT HAPPENING IN CLEVLAND.. THEY GOT MOE BUT HE FROZE UP DURING THE PLAYOFFS.. SHAQ DIDN'T DO SHIT,JAMISON IS WASHED.. YOU CAN ONLY TRY TO DO IT ON YOUR OWN FOR SO LONG BEFORE YOU GET TIRED.. CATS ALWAYS PUT JORDAN ON THIS BIG MANTEL LIKE HE WAS THE ONLY PLAYER DOING IT ON THE BULLS.. COME ON DAME NEAR EVERYBODY JORDAN PLAYED WITH ON THAT TEAM HAS BEEN ACCEPTED TO THE HALL OF FAME AND THE REST ARE GOING TO GET ACCEPTED ALSO.. JORDAN ACTUALLY HAD BETTER PLAYERS THEN KOBE DOES NOW.. IM HAPPY WITH THE MOVE DUDE DID,HE IS TRYING NOT TO END UP LIKE IVERSON. TO TIRED AND BEAT UP REALLY TO COMPETE. NOBODY WANTS TO EVEN HAVE IVERSON ON THERE TEAM RIGHT NOW. HE WAS LOYAL FOR THE MOST PART NOW HES A DONE DEAL HE'LL ONLY BE KNOWN AS A GREAT PLAYER. LEBRON WANTS TO BE KNOWN AS A GREAT AND A CHAMPION THATS WHY HE MADE THE MOVE AND TOOK THE 30 MILL PAY CUT

They had the best record in the NBA for two consecutive seasons, with 60+ wins. This doesn't happen by accident.
YEAH LEBRON RAN HIS SELF IN THE GROUND TWO SEASONS WITH REALLY NO HELP... AND IT SHOWED IN THE LAST PLAYOFFS.. KOBE RAN HIS SELF IN THE GROUND LAST SEASON AND IT SHOWED IN THE PLAYOFFS BUT THE DIFFERENCE IS KOBES TEAM STEPPED UP AND GAVE HIM THE PUSH HE NEEDED.. LEBRON DIDN'T GET THAT NEVER JUST A WHOLE BUNCH OF FROZEN PLAYERS.. IM GLAD HE LEFT I JUST WISH OTHER GREAT PLAYERS BEFORE THIS WOULD OF DID THE SAME THING BEFORE THEY GOT BEAT UP AND COULDN'T COMPETE ANY MORE
