fuck him.

and the yankees.

Free-agent outfielder Jacoby Ellsbury has reached agreement on a seven-year contract with the New York Yankees pending a physical exam, a baseball source told ESPN.com.

SportsNation: Ellsbury to Yankees

SportsNationJacoby Ellsbury reportedly is headed to the Bronx. Is this a good move? Is New York playoff-bound? Vote! »

The source confirmed a CBSSports.com report that Ellsbury's deal exceeds Carl Crawford's seven-year, $142 million contract with the Boston Red Sox in December 2010.

Ellsbury was on his way from his home in Arizona to New York on Tuesday night to take the physical, the source said.

CBSSports.com first reported that a seven-year deal with Ellsbury appears to be close. ESPN.com's Buster Olney reported the Yankees have an aggressive offer to Ellsbury.

With the projected addition of Ellsbury in center field, the Yankees would likely shift Brett Gardner to left field.

In recent days, the Yankees have become increasingly pessimistic that they will be able to retain second baseman Robinson Cano, feeling as if a team such as the Seattle Mariners would outbid them and top $200 million for Cano. The Yankees have privately vowed not go past $175 million for Cano.

$153 mil. What a fucking joke. This guy is 30 years old and has one PRETTY GOOD season. Why is giving him this much money and years necessary? This will go down as one of the most ridiculous contracts of all time.

edit: and it includes an option for an eighth year, making the total $169 mil

all these overinflated contracts do is put a financial strain on baseball. if a player wants $25 million a year why not start payin $10 million yearly during his career. then spread the payments over a number of years after he retires. that way not too much money is at risk during the career

the carl crawford contract is a prime example. he averages 10 home runs and 58 rbis. had 1 great career year in 2010. the redsox overpaid by 500% to keep that bum. his contract became a starnglehold. after 2 years in boston he got traded to the didgers. last year he made $20 million for 6 homers and 31 rbi to go with 15 stolen bases. baseball and the players union both need to ban these type of albatross contracts

lol @ the mariners signing cano

yea fucking right, the mariners would never go after that caliber of player seriously, and no player of that caliber would ever go to the mariners. the mariners are a straight joke right now. lincoln believes everything is fine because they turn a profit every year and mostly cares about the rich fans who go to safeco not to watch baseball but to hang out and spend money. thank god armstrong finally retired. the mariners are not interested in winning and are living off 90s and 2001 nostalgia and bobbleheads. theres a reason we go through coaches at such a fast rate, the absentee ownership and toxic management do not care about baseball, only revenue.

What does cano have invested in new york? If hes got properties and some kids, hes not gonna leave new york even if the mariners bid the same as the yankees.

if he lives in miami and has baby mommas he's avoiding then who knows, maybes hes ready to ditch the yanks and move across the country
