ith both the Oakland Raiders and San Diego Chargers pushing for new stadiums—so far unsuccessfully—the two franchises are joining forces for a potential ground-share in Carson, California.

Sam Farmer of the Los Angeles Times reported Thursday night that the Chargers and Raiders are still pursuing solutions that would see them remain where they are, but they're also toying around with the idea of a $1.7 billion stadium they'd co-own close to Los Angeles.

Shelby Grad of the L.A. Times posted a photo of what the stadium could look like:

Oakland and San Diego released a collective statement, via the Chargers' official site. It read in part:

We have both been working in our home markets to find a stadium solution for many years, so far unsuccessfully. We remain committed to continuing to work in our home markets throughout 2015 to try to find publicly acceptable solutions to the long-term stadium issue.

Both teams have kept the NFL owners’ committee on Los Angeles, and the Commissioner, fully informed about our joint efforts. We are pursuing this stadium option in Carson for one straightforward reason: If we cannot find a permanent solution in our home markets, we have no alternative but to preserve other options to guarantee the future economic viability of our franchises.

Neither the Raiders nor Chargers look particularly close to reaching a new stadium deal with their respective cities.

Matthew Artz of the Bay Area News Group reported earlier in the month that the Raiders are withholding their rent payment for O.co Coliseum in the midst of owner Mark Davis' dispute with the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum Authority.

Meanwhile, things in San Diego are at a similar deadlock, with San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer critical of the Chargers' attempts to find a new stadium, per Lori Weisberg of U-T San Diego. According to U-T San Diego's David Garrick, Faulconer will meet with Chargers president Dean Spanos to iron out some of their issues.

The Chargers and Raiders aren't the only franchises using Los Angeles as a possible bargaining chip on the stadium front. Farmer and Roger Vincent of the Los Angeles Times reported in January that St. Louis Rams owner Stan Kroenke is looking at an 80,000-seat venue at Hollywood Park in Inglewood, California.

That would actually be dope as fuck. lol with the Raiders and Chargers playing each other twice a year both teams would basically get 9 home games a year. The atmosphere of those Raider/Charger games would be crazy every year. Both teams get a state of the art modern stadium. Also Carson is only like 5 and a half hours from the bay and less than 2 hours from San Diego so fans from both areas can still easily hit up games.

Win/win for both teams. I hope this happens.

If the Chargers leave, I can't believe the people would be in it for the Chargers. Both Oakland and SD are getting jipped. But if Oakland backs out then SD will too and I do see that happening

Raiders should stay in OAK. I'm a niner fan and I vote for them to stay... LA can get their team thru ST Louis or some one else that's willing to give it up.. the fans in Oakland are die hard fans that are loyal show them respect, build their mediocre stadium in Oakland and keep the raiders... LA doesn't really need a NFL team they are just trying to push it to make more $$$ obviously

This won't happen, the NFL has been trying to get something built on that land for 20yrs and the chargers want us to believe that all of a sudden its gonna happen? definitely a tactical move to put pressure on the city. same with oakland...once the rams owner said he would use his own money to build in LA, it made all these other owners panic. They've been using LA as bait for years and if the rams beat them to the punch, they have no leverage.

LA really doesn't need a football team though..
Why wouldn't the second largest market in the country not need a football team? The Dodgers are the 2nd highest valued team in baseball. The Lakers and Clippers are the 1st and 5th highest valued team in basketball.

It makes no sense not to have a team in LA, location alone = $$$ for whoever ends up there.

Because they already had two teams... and if you live in the area you'll hate the idea. Traffic sucks ass out there, with this new stadium it'll be even worse.

Yeah they already had two teams, but there were circumstances why both left.

Georgia Frontiere the owner of the Rams at the time who was also one of the worst owners in sports history was basically offered a brand new stadium for free. She didn't spend a dime when the dome in St. Louis was built and they gave the Rams a lease for next to nothing, she also sold half the team during the move to the current owner.

As for the Raiders it was basically the same situation as the Rams. The city of Oakland footed the bill for $250 million in stadium renovations and the Raiders didn't pay a dime and on top of that pay next to nothing in rent.

Your point about traffic is stupid as fuck. Both UCLA and USC fill 75,000 people in their stadiums every single home game at the Rose Bowl and LA Coliseum and every thing is fine.

If an NFL stadium is built in LA it would literally only get used for football EIGHT times a year.

lol @ 8 Sundays of traffic being a reason not to bring a football team to the largest sports money market in the world.
