just hopped on a canon with a 50mm lens....what are some other good budget lenses to look at? I was looking at the 55-250mm and the 28-105mm cuz both were relatively affordable and I wanted to have a bit of zoom. My primary focus is video, and I'm content for the time being with the 50mm, but I'd like to get a zoom or perhaps a wide angle, but I ain't tryin to break the bank.

also what are the main things that I should look at if purchasing a used lens?

primes are gonna be the fastest and sharpest unless you wanna drop a nice piece of change.

fast lenses are anything under F/2.8

i'd recommend a 35mm or something wider, or a do it all lens like the 18-200, youd have macro, wide angle and telephoto all covered

^that's what I got...way better than the kit lens....I just need something besides that one to get me off the ground.

What are the feelings on used lenses, and is there another spit to look for them besides craigslist and eBay?

I use the 50mm 1.4 to shoot video all the time...Its a purpose lens and Is used soley for medium closeups on cropped sensors (in my case at least). I use the 85mm 1.4 for extreme closeups and also have a tokina 11-16mm 2.8 for establishing/wide shots.

I got a Nikon 50mm 1.8 for $60, I havent been able to find anything close to that price on craigslist anymore lol.. I got a deal, came with a tiffen filter too.

Anything with a fixed focal range is good, the best glass is Zeiss tho but its $$$$$.

I recommend a good set of primes, like a 25, 35, 50, 85, but you can cheat by moving back or closer to your subject. You'll also get more sharper video and you'll be able to get more light without having to push higher ISO's and thus introducing more noise to your video.. I'm about to upgrade to the GH2 but I might wait and see what comes out, that's probably the best camera out right now for the $$$

Pretty much what I was gonna say. I'd recomment the 18-200 because you'll have everything you need: macro, wide, and telephoto. I'm currently investing in a 18-200mm.
