What do you guys think of this developing story? I was not aware of Kap's strong political views until he sat during the national anthem on Friday. Many people have turned on him due to his refusal to stand for a country that in his opinion promotes racial injustice. There are a few that are praising Kap for his strong convictions of a social issue that is bigger than the game of football.

It is rumored that Kaepernick converted to Islam during the off season and has been sharing a great deal of Black Lives Matter rhetoric on a number of social media outlets. He may be committing career suicide considering his decline on the field and the controversy surrounding his stance on racial tension in this country. If it is really bigger than football to him and it won't matter if he never plays a down in the NFL again.

I find it funny how people will say you have the right to freedom of speech and thought yet deplore kap for this. Apparently you only have that right if it coincides with their ideology. I hate squidward in general (fuck the 9ers) but I respect him for this.

What do all the dumb asses do and say in these scenarios? Talk about war veterans and how we wouldnt have freedom without them etc. Then why are you stifling his freedom? Besides why does everyone default to "he doesnt care about the troops who died for his rights" and all that dumb shit. Did he take a stand against the military? WW2 vets?

He is clearly taking a stand against the GOVERNMENT but people are so narrowminded it is always left or right, black or white etc. due to hegelian dialectic all everyone ever does is choose a side and argue amongst eachother rather than ever looking at a resolution.

I think it's bullshit. It's all a front. I think the real reason he didn't get up for the anthem was because he really wasn't in the fucking mood to do anything anybody told him. This whole thing did start around the time they announced he'd 2nd string. He probably didn't think it was that big of deal. He's not the first athlete to sit during the anthem. He just gave the media a really strong alibi that they can't disprove, and the shit just blew up and took on a life of it's own. It's becoming trendy. All the high school kids are doing it. Disrespectful little shits.

Are people saying he doesn't have the first amendment right to choose his own belief to sit during the anthem or just that he's disrespectful for doing so? People have their right to their own opinion. Haven't been following too closely....

It's to the point to where people just repeat what they hear, from one of two sides, without any more depth than that at all.

"Our troops didn't die for this guy to blatantly disrespect the flag like this! What a spoiled piece of millionaire shit!"
"You realize a lot of veterans support Kaepernick's decision and have said that they fought for his rights to support, OR stand against the flag right?"
"Yeah well I don't know, i just think they should focus on football... err uhmm.." lol

really with everything its like this now. Every single topic. You're either one side or the other, and no one here thinks anymore beyond the talking points they're given to parrot, and misinformation and lies spread much faster than the truth, and linger a lot longer as well

I jumped on the fuck Colin Kaepernick train when I found out he didn't vote and Trump got elected. How the fuck does someone soapbox about social injustice for months and secondhand help a man who believes in nationally instituted stop and frisk to become the president? Stop and frisk is directly associated with a number of black people in New York getting assaulted or killed by the police, even Colin's limited knowledge of the social injustice inflicted onto minorities that he learned from social media can tell him that. It is my firm belief that Colin Kaepernick's viewpoints are as contrite and one dimensional as his play on the football field. Even Stephen A. Smith turned on him in a bad way.

What if he believes voting is bullshit? What if he literally disliked all the candidates? What if he believes in protesting the election?

His views probably are one dimensional but I never understand the reasons why people get upset for others not voting, as there are lots of reasons not to vote.

I can see your point, but how has protesting elections by not voting changed anything (please note I am mostly speaking on local issues)? In fact, do we not hear how members of both parties attempt to intimidate each other to get them to not vote? Maybe we don't matter for the POTUS selection, but we do matter on a local scale, even you have stated that you and those you are aligned with helped get a socialist elected to the local council, correct? Would Kaep not better serve his cause by publicly supporting candidates who align with his beliefs as well? Just throwing out some thoughts here. He is kneeling and for what? The POTUS is ignoring him all the same.

I mean on a national scale more than 122 million people who were eligible to vote didn't vote, that is alot of power- statement wise. Think if 122 million did vote for Jill Stein, what kind of message would that have sent to the media and these political crooks, irregardless of what they would have done with it? I imagine that would wake quite a few people up who claim they are so awake yet still support the GOP & DNC..... just my $0.02

All I'm saying is that his beliefs are aligned to the left way more than the right. Who knows how many people were influenced by Kaepernick and didn't vote, it could have made a difference and most people who share Kap's viewpoints would have not voted for Donald Trump. It still appears that Kaepernick has alot of good intentions and is trying to do good in his own way, I am just one of the 150 million people in this country that is pissed Donald Trump is going to be the leader of the free world.

Kaepernick said he felt it would be hypocritical for him to vote because it would be the equivalent of showing support for a system he doesn't believe in. He also said the choice of Trump should increase the urgency for everyone to work toward solutions to make the system better.

I don't think he should be criticized for that I think his logic is sound. If his reason for not voting is because he believes the process is broken and corrupt, then he's right. He also said there are other ways to create change which is absolutely right. Now, whether or not what he's doing personally is creating change that's up for debate but he had created a whole lot of conversation that's for certain.

I agree with you though, on a local level you can accomplish a lot more and I'm not sure if that's something he considered or if he was just focused on the presidential election. I don't know his motives other than what he stated but throughout history there are plenty of examples of voter boycotts.

One example that immediately comes to mind is The Bolsheviks advocated an active boycott of the Duma. Lenin called the Duma, introduced into the Russian Empire by Tsar Nicholas II in 1906, a "fraud that must be exposed". Boycott meaning refusing to take part in the elections. "Why do we refuse to take part in the elections?
Because by taking part in the elections we should involuntarily foster belief in the Duma among the people and thereby weaken the effectiveness of our struggle against this travesty of popular representation." And he goes on to list more reasons here - Lenin: Should We Boycott the State Duma?

I think that I disagree with him but I also think the First Amendment isn't even close to as long as your post tho.....
