BUILD FEB. 4 EMERGENCY DEMONSTRATION TO STOP U.S. WAR AGAINST IRAN
NO WAR! NO SANCTIONS! NO INTERVENTION! NO ASSASSINATIONS

A broad spectrum of U.S.-based anti-imperialist and anti-war organizations, including the IAC, agreed on a Jan. 17 conference call to hold coordinated protests across the country on Saturday, Feb. 4. The demands will be: “No war, no sanctions, no intervention, no assassinations against Iran.”

The ad-hoc group that took part in the call decided that although there are only two weeks to organize, it will invite anti-war forces around the world to join in to make this emergency protest a global day of action.

All agreed on the need to stop U.S. imperialism and/or Israel from launching a military attack on Iran. There was also a consensus that the new sanctions President Barack Obama signed into law on Dec. 31 -- with the goal of breaking the Iranian central bank -- were themselves an act of war aimed at the Iranian people. The political activists on the call raised the danger of a wider war should fighting break out in or around Iran.

While the organizations involved had varied assessments of the Iranian government, they all saw any intervention from U.S. imperialism in the Southwest Asian country as a threat to the entire region and to peace. Some of the people on the call who are originally from Iran and who were in touch with family and friends there conveyed the Iranian people’s anger at the recent assassination of a young scientist.

There was agreement to make “no assassinations” one of the demands to show solidarity with the Iranian population as well as to condemn the U.S. and its allies for criminal activities against Iran and its people.

As of Jan. 19, the organizations that called the actions or endorsed later included the United National Anti-War Coalition (UNAC), the International Action Center (IAC), SI! Solidarity with Iran, Refugee Apostolic Catholic Church, Workers World Party, World Can’t Wait, American Iranian Friendship Committee, ANSWER Coalition, Antiwar.com, Peace of the Action, ComeHomeAmerica.us, St. Pete for Peace, Women Against Military Madness (WAMM), Defenders for Freedom, Justice & Equality-Virginia, WESPAC Foundation, Peace Action Maine, Occupy Myrtle Beach, Minnesota Peace Action Coalition, Twin Cities Peace Campaign and Bail Out the People Movement (BOPM).

Individual endorsers include authors David Swanson, “When the World Outlawed War,” and Phil Wilayto, “In Defense of Iran: Notes from a U.S. Peace Delegation’s Journey through the Islamic Republic”; and U.N. Human Rights Award winner Ramsey Clark, a former U.S. attorney general.

The list is expected to grow steadily as word spreads. Right now people can follow developments on the Facebook link:

A. Experience talk. I don't know how little you are or how short your memory is, but I was around when the Iraq war started. That shit failed then and it will fail worse now.

B. I'm not standing with failures. Update your tactics and get real if you want support.

C. My original point being that's why fewer people will show this time around. To respond to yours, that's why it won't work and fewer people will show up this time.

I'm not telling you not to do anything. If this is how you like to spend your time then do you. Just don't expect this to do anything substantive.

They can take action and protest all they want, but Iran is trying to develop uranium or Wutever for a bomb!..They have a new top notch factory hidden inside a huge mountain ! They say we already killed more then one scientist of theirs in secret spy operations!!...and if we want or decide to bomb their ass, ain't a gawt damn thing we can do about it! There is a reason why the iraq war "all of a sudden" ended and I think it's because we are coming home to re group before we hit iran! I listen to world renowned Historian Webster Tarpley (a real smart dude on politics) who was recently predicting that it could happen by years end and now We already just moved in a battleship stationed near there!...but hopefully we dont,we can afford another war and more enemies!...

Those r the real facts!

1. LMFAO at citing Webster Tarpley as an authority on anything. That guy belongs to the mental ward, not in any serious discussion

2. By what principle does the US have the right to have nuclear weapons while Iran is forbidden from developing them? Weren't countries supposed to have the same international rights? Worse, who gives Israel the right to have nuclear weapons, to have never officially admitted it and to never be bothered about it by the "international community"? Even worse, we know of only one country that is actually capable of using nuclear weapons, and it is the one that has already used them...

What he said is the truth - the people with power will do whatever the fuck they want. Public pressure succeeds only in special situations when it is combined with other forces pushing in the same direction. Some recent and not so recent cases that you may cite as an example of public pressure succeeding on closer examination do not really hold up:

1. The SOPA and PIPA bills didn't go through, however in addition to the protests, you can be sure there has been pressure from the IT industry exercised through more traditional channels.
2. The Arab Spring where it succeeded was in all likelihood aided by external forces. In Lybia it was openly done, but there and in all other cases those in power had the means to crush it and in some cases they did (Bahrain for example)
3. The fall of the Soviet Union was not at all caused by people taking it to the streets - it was an internal operation engineered within the party. That people took it to the streets was a consequence of the fact the system was being taken apart not a cause of it. s

.
depends on what you call a failure. There were hundreds of thousands of protesters in america, millions worldwide and while it certainly didn't stop the war it did help shift the minds of many people further to the left and many people were recruited into various left wing political parties, such as socialist groups and the likes. I was in seattle with 50,000+ marching and I seen it first hand, I brought many people into my group myself some of whom went on to become important individuals. Without those protests...if everyone just stayed home those opportunities would have been lost.

a revolutionary should never oppose protests like these man. Futile as they may be against stopping a war there are many other purposes of protests.

So a criminal should turn a blind eye to the acts of other criminals simply because they are a criminal themselves?
