the problem with africa is closed economies and big corrupt bureaucracies. and another problem is first world nations putting tariffs on cheap african agricultural products to protect first world farmers. but i'd say the biggest problem is that they can't seem to go more than a decade without a major civil war erupting. the civil wars are a product of the oppressive dictatorships and bloated, corrupt bureaucracies.

that whole continent is pretty much doomed.

My brother went to the concert in Philly. He said he loved it, but he was drunk, so I don't trust his opinion.

I saw a couple minutes of it on the news and the whole thing seemed pretty gimmicky if you ask me..
How is a concert gonna help stop aids and genocidal war and all that? It seems like just another way for celebrities to pretend they care about something that they're too pussy to do anything about in reality.

I wouldn't doubt that now, but the original concert 20 or so years ago raised a couple million dollars and was a huge success. People are so superficial these days, though that I bet most of these artists could give two shits about starving kids.

As long as there is Capitalism in the world Africa will be exploited. No Capitalist nations can EVER help Africa without exploiting Africa.

'Nuff said.

On a sidenote, I would have watched if I would have known the exact time that Shakira was performing.

yeah, i was reading about how at first no one was donating any money, but then the guy came on stage and said something like "where's the fuckin money" and then the lines were flooded with donations.
