WEST COAST HIP-HOP AWARDS - October 24-25 in LA
With entertainment and social change in mind, last year’s WestCoast Hip Hop Regional Awards event successfully captured a structurewith which to develop a positive movement on the West Coast. So muchso, that they’re putting on another one this October.
SKG, founder and organizer of the West Coast Regional Hip Hop Awards,has been outspoken about her mission and expectations of this ceremony.“The purpose of the Hip Hop Regional Awards goes deeper than honoringtop artists who have made significant contributions to the industry.It's also about promoting diversity in the Hip Hop genre, educating thepublic on the work of rap and Hip Hop pioneers and to diminish thenegativity associated with Hip Hop and rap.” This statement is evidentin this year’s honorees which include Los Angeles City CouncilmanBernard Parks and West Coast Hip Hop pioneer Snoop Dogg.
Not stopping at just a better image for the Hip Hop community, SKG alsowants it to be known that positive change starts with our youth andeducation. “[This] organization hopes to implement after-school musicprograms and initiate scholarship programs so students can pursue theirdreams in college.” With that in mind, SKG has made sure that theentertainment aspect still serves its purpose.
Slated as a two-day event, the first day (Oct. 24th) will cater to fansand media with a meet and greet that goes from 5:30 pm – 1:00 am.Artists expected to be present are Crooked I (who last year won theBest Lyricist award), 40 Glocc, Western Union, and Coniyac.
Then on October 25th, the official ceremony will kick off at 6:30 pmwith a slew of artists scheduled to perform. Included on the bill areGlasses Malone, Colby O’ Donis, Problem, and Strong Arm Steadyalongside Talib Kweli.
The 2nd annual West Coast Hip Hop Regional Awards, this year held atthe Wilshire Grand Hotel in Los Angeles, will be hosted by actress andmodel Porsha Coleman, Westside Radio’s Julio G, and comic T.K Kirkland.
